Finasteride

An oral prescription medication (Propecia) used primarily to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) by inhibiting DHT production.

Finasteride works by blocking the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is the primary androgen responsible for shrinking hair follicles in men genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness.

By significantly lowering the levels of DHT in the scalp, finasteride ceases further hair loss and, for many men, helps regrow hair.

It is considered a cornerstone treatment and is frequently prescribed by telehealth clinics alongside topical minoxidil.
