Tirzepatide

A dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes (Mounjaro) and for chronic weight management (Zepbound).

Tirzepatide is a novel therapeutic peptide that targets two different incretin hormone receptors: GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1).

By activating both receptors, tirzepatide has shown highly synergistic effects on appetite suppression, insulin sensitivity, and fat metabolism, frequently resulting in more substantial weight loss in clinical trials than GLP-1 agonists alone.

It is administered via a weekly subcutaneous injection.
